Mythical Pokemon 2016 – Who’s Who: MANAPHY

Let's take a brief look at who's coming out to play in 2016 Mythical Collection boxsets:

MANAPHY - Release date: June 2016

Manaphy
(Japanese: マナフィ Manaphy)
Generation IV

MANAPHY, THE CUTE LITTLE GUY WITH THE KILLER MOVE

Manaphy is a water-type, Mythical Pokemon. It has an alien-blob vibe going on, with two long antennae extending from the top its head. These antennae are actually very important. Manaphy uses them in its signature move, "Heart Swap", in which it switches players energy, a crucial move if things aren't going your way.

Manaphy is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokemon.

It has the unusual ability to breed, despite being a Mythical Pokemon. Further unusual-ness, its offspring are Phione, which do not evolve into Manaphy! I think someone needs to call Jeremy Kyle?

It is a member of the sea guardians with Phione. The sea guardians are a Mythical duo that, somewhat like Mewtwo and Mew, comprises of a parent and child. However, Phione's status as a Mythical Pokemon is disputed, with several pieces of evidence and even official statements often contradicting each other on the subject. So, you might have to disregard the last 5-10 seconds, depending on your reading speed.

Manaphy was the last Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokédex before the Platinum expansion.

ANIME & FILM APPEARANCES:
FILM
  • MS09: Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea
Minor appearances
  • A Manaphy appears in the intro of Pikachu's Ocean Adventure.
  • A Manaphy appears in the intro of The Rise of Darkrai and Arceus and the Jewel of Life.
  • A Manaphy made a cameo appearance in the ending credits in Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade.

In the anime, Manaphy debuted in Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, in which, like in the games, it first appeared as an Egg, and befriended May, who it regarded as its mother. It is sought after by the Phantom, a pirate who wants to take the jewels of the Sea Crown deep in Samiya.

Like Jirachi, Manaphy cannot be legitimately found in the wild. In the video game series, Manaphy is only obtainable through a Nintendo Event, or by completing Pokemon Ranger and completing the special Manaphy mission, or it can be directly received via various Mystery Gift events.
